Our Services

Learn evidence-based tools week by week that are proven to boost productivity and wellbeing, and protect against anxiety, depression, and stress. Our programs are consciously designed for people who strive to do the most good in the world.

The CBT Lab

  • Overcome perfectionism, procrastination, existential dread, and other psychological burdens that come with combating the world’s most pressing issues.

In this online program, we'll guide you and a group of peers through proven techniques rooted in Third Wave Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Approaches (CBT, ACT, Mindfulness). The techniques taught in The CBT Lab are shown to increase resilience, productivity, and quality of life while reducing and protecting against anxiety, depression, and stress.

Through weekly group sessions and, personalized exercises, you'll build practical skills to navigate life's obstacles with confidence. You’ll also have access to access to our online community, bespoke resources and peer support.

  • 8 weekly online sessions, followed by a reunion session in Week 12.

  • Each week, you will complete a reading from our CBT Lab Playbook, introducing you to a new CBT tool. You’ll then join a 1.5-hour online peer-support session with 5–7 well-matched peers, guided by a trained and supervised facilitator. In these sessions, you’ll discuss your home practice, support each other, and practice the new CBT tool together.

Following the session, you’ll continue your weekly practice with ongoing support from your peers, expert Q&A sessions, and unlimited access to our online community.

To fully benefit from the program, we ask for a commitment of approximately 5 hours per week, which includes peer-group sessions, reading, and home practice.

  • We have one expression of interest for all our programs which takes 10 minutes to complete.

We’ll ask about you and your goals to understand which of our services are the best fit for you. We'll do our best to match you to a program that suits your preferences. However, please note that applying does not guarantee you a place as spots are limited.

Joining as a Facilitator

  • As a facilitator, you will guide 6-8 participants through one of our online programs, learning alongside them.

This opportunity is suitable for facilitators who:

    • Are interested in mental health and supporting the EA community’s wellbeing

    • Have experience with facilitating groups, and enabling authentic expression and connection

    • Are available to volunteer 4-6 h/week for 8-12 weeks (choice of start dates)

Our facilitators receive bespoke training in:

    • Facilitation Techniques and Philosophy: Building skills to guide meaningful, inclusive, and empathetic group discussions.

    • Safety and Risk Management: Ensuring a secure, supportive environment while recognizing and addressing potential risks effectively.

  • You can apply to become a facilitator at any time. We review applications in batches and will invite successful applicants to interview.

Successful applicants are invited to complete our bespoke facilitator training on Google Classroom at their own pace. Following this, you’ll participate in a half-day live online workshop that includes interactive roleplays.

Once you have completed your training, you will be invited to facilitate upcoming peer groups that match your skillset and availability. Don’t worry if you’re not available straight away, we’ll invite you to a later cohort instead.

Most of our programs consist of 9 online sessions with your group over 12 weeks. Facilitators typically volunteer 5 hours per week during the program, including facilitating sessions and supporting their group of 5-7 peers.

  • All our facilitators complete a three-stage application process and our bespoke training program before they're matched to a peer group.

To be matched to a peer group, you need to be available for the full program duration. You will guide your group through the program, playing a central role in fostering a supportive environment. During the program, facilitators typically volunteer 5 hours per week which includes preparations, practice, weekly online peer group sessions, and maintaining communication with the group.

We provide weekly office hours with our Program Manager and on-demand assistance to support you throughout.

  • Our three-stage application process starts with a short form to understand your motivations and experience, followed by an interview and a roleplay.

If you're successful, we'll invite you to complete our bespoke training program on Google Classroom at your own pace.

Once you've completed your online training, you're ready to start volunteering and facilitate your first peer group!

Additional Program Formats and Versions

  • Our IFS Lab is designed for those aiming to tackle deeper-seated issues, or who have experience with other self-reflective therapeutic approaches. In this online program, we guide groups of peers through the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework to help participants identify and harmonize inner parts that may be in conflict, unlocking more fulfilment, resilience, and high-performance.

Having served 40 participants in 2024, we are currently evaluating the IFS Lab’s effectiveness to determine whether to offer the program again. Pre-post effects over the first three months were mostly small and non-significant, despite notable interest and positive qualitative feedback. This may be due to the nature of its effects (possibly longer-lasting and cumulative), the specific format, or the IFS approach itself. We’re currently measuring longer-term effects to test this.

  • In 2024, we ran a CBT Lab version for participants who preferred to guide themselves through the program. The CBT Lab Simple Support program had fewer peer group sessions and less frequent facilitator contact. The program was meaningfully beneficial to participants’ mental health but not their productivity, and had a high dropout rate—38% vs 13% for our standard CBT Lab.

We’d like to develop and pilot a chatbot-guided version with more flexible optional live sessions and better accountability mechanisms. If you’re able to contribute your expertise or financial support to this concept, please get in touch.

  • Attend a week-long immersive retreat for comprehensive and supportive personal growth. In a small group of peers, you’ll be guided through our proven CBT Lab content.

The retreat is not yet confirmed for 2025, but you can express your interest here.

Program Pricing

Accessibility is important to us, so our programs are designed to be affordable. We work hard to keep our program fees low. We also offer discounted or free places to those who can’t afford to fund their place themselves.

Donations make our no-cost places possible. If you’re able to, please consider donating a program place to help an ambitious altruist increase their impact on the world’s most pressing problems.

  • Our suggestions are aimed at those who can afford it, and would like to help in contributing to covering costs for participants who cannot afford them:

    • $550 for Peer Support formats ($41 per session hour)

    • $300 for Simple Support and Chatbot-Buddy Support formats.

This contribution help us maintain our discounted places while still costing significantly less than 1:1 therapy in many countries.

  • Thanks to the support of generous donors, we are able to offer lower-cost and free places on our programs. If the suggested contribution is too high for you, at the dedicated point in your application simply suggest a contribution that you can afford, starting from $0.

Our pay-what-you-can model is designed for those who are dedicated to doing good in the world but may not have the means to take care of themselves while doing it. As a guide, this is likely to apply to those earning less than $50,000 per year and/or facing financial constraints. We offer our model on trust and will not ask you for evidence.

  • If you are contributing less than $200 (or $50 if you're from a lower-income country), we will ask you for a motivational deposit.

Our motivational deposit scheme helps maintain a strong group dynamic by ensuring everyone shares the same commitment to completing the program. We do this because our peer group format means that every individual’s participation impacts the success of the whole group.

Motivational deposits are reimbursed following full completion of the program. If you do not qualify for reimbursement at the end of the program, the deposit will be donated to Rethink Wellbeing and dedicated to supporting future participants.

For these purposes, “full completion of the program” means:

    1. Missing no more than one group session (of nine in total), or none if participating in a Simple Support program

    2. Completing all Wellbeing Evaluation surveys —once before and once after the program

    3. Completing all nine Weekly Reflection surveys

Thank you to our donors and funders who make it possible for us to provide free program places for changemakers who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
